Our new Loeffler Randall Mid-Winter/Resort Collection just arrived and we are LOVING where LR has taken us.  They have appealed to our base wild side with debut of their new Patent Python Matilde Boot (above).  It is just the boot that will surely make us feel a bit more adventurous and uninhibited every time we wear it. THANK YOU LR for making a flat boot that as always have our feet thanking us profusely AND also for bringing us this dangerously alluring finish to not only our jeans and leggings but also all of the great LBD’s and leggy looks this season has us styling ourselves in day and night!

Introducing Luxe Knitwear Designer//Brochu Walker

Introducing Brochu WalkerThanks to  cashmere designer, Brochu Walker, our layering this season just became super luxe and very stylish.  Each of their pieces are organically inspired drawing from the natural environment around us.  Colors are subtle, drawn from nature. Textures, super soft and inviting, their designs are timeless and classic.  The heritage wrap (shown above) is our favorite for this season. Trimmed in a silk collar, this cardigan can easily be worn open over a dress for an evening out, over denim for our daily ventures, or paired with the great suede studded belt sold with the wrap (BONUS: love the belt!). This cardigan is super versatile, chic, and probably won’t spend much time in our closets this season!

Equestrian Chic: Blake Lively and Katy Perry

Yesterday not one but two celebrities were photographed wearing Smythe’s Black Equestrian Coat.  This coat which also happens to be in our window this week, is an evolution from Smythe’s Equestrian Blazer that has become synonymous with the label and their cult following in the industry.  We love that it was photographed in two completely different ways (left) with Blake Lively looking stunning pairing it over a black gown for an elegant evening look, while Katy Perry styled it over leggings for a much more Downtown everyday look.  This is why we loved this coat at first sight as well because it is that perfect black coat that takes you anywhere during the season and never fails to standout in a super chic way.  Pop the collar, pair it with a scarf, a stunning necklace – whatever your preference again Smythe is never just a jacket.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis//Style Icon.

Jackie Kennedy Onassis Style Icon

Jackie Kennedy Onassis: Style Icon

The heir to the effortless chic style throne is without a doubt Jackie O.  Her style was timeless, chic, and she is perhaps the most influential style icon since Marie Antoinette shook up the French throne at Versailles.  All of our style icons have had confidence, ease, and grace, which are not necessarily synonymous with specific styles of clothing.  However, they appear to be essential between looking fabulous in an outfit and  looking not quite put together properly.  Jackie O. inspired millions of women to wear bright colored dresses, sheaths, and wonderful outerwear accented with clean but rich detailing such as bows, lace, oversize buttons, and pattern.  It is difficult for a lot of women (myself included) to maintain pops of color during the fall/winter. It is so easy and chic to go more Audrey Hepburn with the head-to-toe black ensemble, but learning how to integrate color into our favorite black attire can help add dimension to any outfit during the winter and make our skin glow more!  Here are our favorite looks right now that have been inspired by our style icon Ms. Kennedy Onassis: (below) Our Marc by Marc Jacobs dress is absolutely amazing! The color is so fabulous on everyone and the bow is ever so chic!  I’ve seen this paired with a black peep toe stiletto for a very sleek and leggy look and also I LOVE it with sheer black tights and black suede stiletto boots.  Imagine with a black overcoat how amazing this look is for dinner – the green just pops from underneath and then once the jacket is off, sitting at the table, the bow frames the neckline oh so perfectly and not in an obnoxious bow sort of way!  I am definitely inspired to wear this to work over the next couple of days.  This time of year especially,  I love finding these bright  pops of color to brighten up my look!

The most stunning dress coat: Hanii Y Black Fur and Lace Detail Coat

The most stunning dress coat: Hanii Y Black Fur and Lace Detail Coat

Our favorite dress coat of this season (right) is definitely Jackie O meets Nordic-chic. Even for someone who feels that a fur coat can be overwhelming (that would be me), this coat is very easy to wear and super glamourous.  There is just the right amount of fur on the top of the coat to keep that glamour yet eliminate the usual bulk that comes along with fur.  The lace trim is a bit victorian inspired and softens the graduation from the fur to the coat’s base fabric.  What I love most about this coat is that it gives you the perfect opportunity to pair it with a great pop of color underneath – the purple Shoshanna dress underneath shows off the detailing of the coat and softens the bold color of the dress for those of us that need something to ground the boldness.  The purple dress under the fur looks very royal to me – and of course now as I write this, I see my subconscious inspiration was also of course The Tudors/ Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn time period.  I love purple and black paired together – also very rock and roll chic if edged up a bit with tights and a bootie.  This has definitely become my favorite look of the week – for those of you that will be in the store this week  – it will be on the mannequin!

ADAM by Adam Lippes Navy and Black Houndstooth Dress

ADAM by Adam Lippes Navy and Black Houndstooth Dress

We already sold out of ADAM’s navy and black houndstooth trousers not only because of their amazing fit, but also the fabric choice was so unique and rich so when this sheath dress (left) arrived in the same fabric we were ecstatic to say the least.  The fit is incredible, it is so timeless, and the perfect alternative to wearing an LBD.   For a more casual and work oriented lifestyle, Shoshanna’s purple ponte dress below is our final Jackie O. inspiration dress for today.  For those of us that love purple (me!) and might not have a more formal occasion to wear her party dress pictured under the fur coat, this ponte dress (below) is extremely versatile.  Ponte is an amazing fabric – comfortable, flattering, and versatile.  This dress can easily be worn during the day with black tights and flat boots or a ballet flat. To dress it up, pairing it the same way as the party dress (above right) is easy enough or paired with a fitted thin black turtleneck underneath and black tights is a more modern work friendly, cold weather option.

Style Icon: Grace Kelly

Today’s style icon I have become inspired by is Grace Kelly.  The actress, icon, and princess was known for her easy elegant style. Always featured in dresses with clean lines and simple silhouettes that were perfectly proportioned for her body.  The fluidity of her style and ‘grace’ can inspire us to style ourselves with ease and confidence.  When I see a customer fidgeting with something they are trying on, I always tell them to pass on it because when you fidget in an outfit – it will never work.  You and your outfit need to feel cohesive – otherwise the fluidity and confidence will never be there.  I am guilty of this quite often when I am rushing in the morning – I will sometimes put something on that I might not have been in the mood to wear and then I throw it off, then another outfit goes on…throw it off…another..until my patience, time, and closet organization are completely lost.  These are the times when the less-is-more mentality works best.  Grace Kelly never over-accessorized – she just seems to have always portrayed this innate confidence and ease.

Our new Byron Lars dress (right) inspired our Grace Kelly Icon Day – it looks AMAZING on every woman that has tried it on.  The color is super flattering on and the ease of the style has been working for black tie affairs, theatre events, day luncheons/showers, and even fancy dinners!  It is a great dress to have in the closet because of its versatility, ease, and style.  No matter what we know that when we wear this dress we will feel like Grace Kelly for the night (and possibly pretend to have that Princess title)!  I love this dress so much that I had to put it in the window which has made the window quite glamorous!

STYLE ICON WEEK//Katharine Hepburn.

This week we will be posting photos of our favorite style icons throughout history. Their style, synonymous with their personalities, inspires how designers create today.  When shopping or getting dressed in the morning many times ‘a light goes off in my head’ quite often saying, “This is so Hepburn” or “This is so Annie Hall” – and I know that my outfit works.  Why you may ask? Sometimes mixing and matching an outfit can get a bit “do I like it with this top or that?” and then the closet and bedroom end up with clothes strewn about. Yet  to have an inspiration to build an outfit off of gives one a style direction that more than likely will result in an “oh so perfect” final look.  Today’s style icon is Katharine Hepburn.

Katharine Hepburn's Iconic Look

I could blog forever about her unique style and personality – she was way ahead of her time with such an innate penchant for feminism.  Woody Allen’s, Annie Hall was definitely inspired by Hepburn’s style. Then of course Diane Keaton (we will chat about her later in the week) has infused her personality into the look to translate it into her own take on androgynous dressing.  She made pants sexy – proving to the world that ’sexy’ doesn’t have to be showing a ton of skin and leg – it can be a perfectly tailored head to toe look paired with unwavering confidence.

harVESTing our fall outerwear obsessions: ADAM Navy Reversible Vest

ADAM reversible vest

ADAM reversible vest

This morning on my journey to work, signs that October is essentially here were quite evident: Halloween decorations abound, leaves transitioning to yellow and orange hues, and grape harvesting at the local vineyard I pass daily.  Fashion translation: we get to break out our favorite fall vests!  It is the perfect time of year whether you’re running kids back and forth to games or trekking into the city, this vest from ADAM (left) is our favorite this year!  It is reversible: one side is an insulated puffer vest while the other is faux fur.  The puffer side is constructed from Thermore insulated fabric which is a serious outerwear company that provides cutting edge technology to winter down jackets.  The vest is weather protected with this fabric, yet doesn’t make us feel like a snowman – no bulkiness here: the bonus of course is that it is navy – we love this color choice.  Black down vests are so commonplace and the numerous other colors that we normally see down vests and jackets coming in are too sporty. Navy gives this vest its fashion forward edge along with the gorgeous faux fur which can so easily be mistaken for real fur – it doesn’t have that fake fur feel or sheen.  We can easily see wearing it during the day navy side out and switching it up at night reversed for a more glamourous option to keeping warm!   We are so used to falling in love with ADAM’s great dresses, knitwear, and pants that we are so blown away by this incredible asset to the Fall ‘09 collection!

Never Just…a Jacket: Smythe.

Smythe Blue Plaid Equestrian Jacket

Smythe Blue Plaid Equestrian Jacket

Smythe Military Jacket

Smythe Military Jacket

Our Smythe jackets have arrived and once again we are in love with the absolute perfect construction of their outerwear. They know how to make outerwear with the most perfect fit season after season and somehow manage to reinvent their style with new jackets for us to swoon over!  The plaid jacket (left) is based off of their trademark shape, their fabric choice and texture this season have evolved as well as the detailing of their leather woven buttons which are in a beautiful caramel color.  This jacket would certainly look amazing styled now with denim and a slim shirt underneath, transcend through winter with a sweater, boots (amazing with the Rag + Bone riding boots below – we had a try on session with them!); and next spring I can see it being worn with a white tee underneath paired with a  navy or gray scarf.  The plaid is so quintessentially New England; add a Starbucks latte or hot chocolate and we are ready for the festivities that this season brings!

In case plaid is not your thing and even if it is, Smythe’s black jacket for Fall ‘09 is the military inspired shape pictured above on the right. When I tried this jacket on in the showroom, I was so impressed with the freshness of the fit, the shape, the detailing, and the buttons (emblem brass).  It is so tough for designers to bring a fresh perspective to the classic  black military jacket shape, but if anyone is going to do it successfully, we know it is Smythe: and they have. This very easily became my personal jacket order for the season – it is extremely functional and smart looking.  It looks great open or closed because  Smythe separated the top and bottom of the front creating a panel that gives the coat a breakaway effect without the “flappy-ness” that an actual breakaway jacket has.  Whether I am in New York, running errands around town, going to work, or going out to dinner I know that this Smythe jacket will be that strong finish to my outfit each time I put it on.  This is what outerwear is supposed to be all about: a strong yet simple statement. No fuss, no fiddling, no eccentricities just perfectly structured and styled outerwear that actually accomplishes the two things we want most out of our jacket: warmth and style.
