Spring Styling for Now.

Elizabeth and James Spring 2010
This time of year, post-holidays, it is always so easy to feel disconnected from the cold weather and uninspired by the six to eight week stretch that is left of the winter season. A lot of us take vacations this time of year, jetting down south to warmer destinations only to return home to 30 degrees (input sad face). This season designers are really inspiring us with pre-spring and spring 1 deliveries that hint at spring with color, fabric, and shape. The styling they are showing for these deliveries, which apply to what stores are receiving now and what we will be receiving over the next month is quite intuitive. Many of us ache to wear the new spring clothing each year at this time, but realize mother nature is not on our side. Designers this year are showing us a transitional play on pre-spring styling. For instance, our new Elizabeth and James caged sandal-bootie (above) that just arrived in the store can be worn now by adding this year’s best friend to shoes: tights. All of the caged shoes that will be arriving for spring are being shown with tights as a cooler-weather styling option. Keep this in mind as this year evolves because the caged shoes/cut-out sandals and booties are not going anywhere. They are easy to wear, look great with a multitude of styles, and transcend seasons. Whether you want to add spring footwear to your daily style right now or that new chambray top the approved transition is to make sure the rest of the outfit remains styled in winter. Although it might not be time to switch the closet over just yet, spring is just around the corner and being able to wear Spring 2010 items makes it seem that much closer.

Ports 1961 Spring Collection/New Arrivals
Always our favorite for dresses, Ports 1961 has blessed us again with a fabulous Spring 2010 collection. We just received an array of amazingly beautiful and classic dresses, not to mention our favorite straight pencil skirt of the season – lined in the most luxurious silk. All women dream of finding that perfect red dress and this new dress from Ports (above) hits all the right fit notes a red dress must in order to be THE red dress. The fit is amazing, the waist detailing perfect (we never have to search for a belt to match the dress), and the cutout on the upper back is very alluring.

Pair it now with fabulous black shoes or animal print pumps. In a month through spring/summer anything nude or neutral. It will look fabulous all year. I cannot even begin to explain the intricacy and specialness of the gold and ivory lace dress (top: above left). Quintessential Ports. For a shower, wedding, engagement, fundraiser, special luncheon, this dress is magnificent in person.

Shoshanna: Au Naturale

Shoshanna Pre-Spring 2010 New Arrivals
This week we received the most gorgeous delivery of Shoshanna dresses we have ever seen! Nudes and Naturals are the dominant palette for Spring ‘10. My take on naturals is that a lot of designers try to work in this ethereal palette but only a few actually transcend the blah into timeless and super flattering pieces. We were very specific about edited our collections for this season and chose what we think are the best and most stunning pieces in this palette. Example 1 is our first delivery of the season: Shoshanna. These two dresses are amazingly beautiful! The fabric is a textured cotton which without touching to the eye resembles a linen or dupioni but so much more comfortable and wearable – no wrinkles! The wood detailing on the left makes getting dressed so much easier – no need to hunt for the perfect wood accessory because it is already there! This is great for vacation and spring/summer events! The strapless reminds us of something we would see Eva Mendes wearing – very classic, bustier detailing, and curve hugging. Accessorize with a champagne colored shoe, leopard shoe, or python for a head-turning finish. The color and fabric make these two very flattering on all skin types – quite rare for a neutral shade. We are so in love with these two dresses that we had to feature them in our window!

After a brief holiday vacation from the style blog, we are happy to wish everyone a glowing year to come for 2010! This year we are proud to be introducing you to many new and amazing collections at glow – arriving this month is a mix of Spring I 2010 & Pre-Spring 2010. Many of us shriek at the thought of spring clothes in January, however, this year our designers are bringing you collections that are cohesively “wear now” as well as great novelty must-have vacation items for all of you jetsetters! There are great pops of color in light-weight knits as well as black, graphite, and leathers in tank silhouettes, cropped jackets, and pants! Spring I shoes will be arriving this month with the same design aesthetic as the RTW collections: we will keep you posted as they arrive! Bonus: next month we will be buying Fall 2010 and reporting back to the style blog our favorite looks for this year!
